Daniel Mangiapani, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip, knee and shoulder preservation and reconstruction, with a focus on minimally invasive, muscle-sparing joint replacement surgery.

Dr. Mangiapani uses surgical techniques designed to preserve surrounding muscles and soft tissues. These include the direct anterior approach for hip replacement and the subvastus approach for partial and total knee replacement, also known as the "Jiffy Knee." By working around muscles rather than cutting through them, these approaches may help reduce postoperative pain, support earlier mobility and facilitate recovery.

He also performs MAKO robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement surgery, which uses advanced imaging and surgical planning technology to assist with implant positioning and alignment.

Dr. Mangiapani emphasizes individualized treatment and implant selection based on each patient's anatomy, joint stability, bone quality and activity level. Options include different implant designs and both cemented and cementless fixation, depending on the patient's needs.

In addition to primary and revision joint replacement, his practice includes fracture care, sports-related injuries and non-surgical management of arthritis, including joint injections.

Dr. Mangiapani specializes in the treatment of a variety of orthopedic conditions and performs orthopedic procedures that include:

Getting to Know Dr. Mangiapani

Baseball has always been a big part of Dr. Mangiapani’s life. He played college baseball at Duke University in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), where his experience as an athlete gave him firsthand appreciation for the challenges of recovering from an injury and getting back to doing what one enjoys.

Today, Dr. Mangiapani is a husband and father of three. He still spends plenty of weekends at the ballpark, this time cheering on his son as he plays travel baseball.

A fun fact about Dr. Mangiapani and his family is that they live in a historic Swiss-style bungalow built in 1918. They have spent years restoring and renovating the home, giving him a deep appreciation for the time, care, and craftsmanship it takes to rebuild something to last. In some ways, he sees a connection between restoring an older home and joint replacement: both are about restoring function, improving quality of life, and helping people get back to functioning and loving life.
